Seraphine de Senlis (1864-1942) was a French self-taught, "naif" painter. She began to paint at the age of 42 and got some success and financial stability only years after. Yet due to the Great Depression and her psychiatric problems, her career abruptly ended in 1930 and she died alone and forgotten in a psychiatric clinic in 1942.
