Marc Emery is a Canadian businessman and political activist who owned and operated Cannabis Culture Magazine, Pot-TV, the BC Marijuana Party, and Marc Emery's Cannabis Culture Headquarters.
He was also the world's most famous marijuana seed retailer and the biggest financial supporter of the marijuana movement world-wide untile the US DEA and Canadian law enforcement arrested him in Canada and shut down Marc Emery Direct Seed in July 2005.
Marc is currently imprisoned in Yazoo City medium-security prison in Yazoo City, Mississippi after being extradited on May 20th, 2010 by the Canadian government. He was sentenced on September 10th in Seattle federal court to 5 years in prison for "distribution of marijuana" seeds, though the US DEA admitted it was actually for his political activism and financing the marijuana movement.
Currently Marc has still 880 days to do until he is Eligible for Early Release.

Wirikuta is the Indian Huicholes' sacred site, situated in the mountains of central Mexico. Traditionally the Huicholes make a long and exhausting annual pilgrimage to Wirikuta, a remote desert region where they ritually harvest peyote, the Huicholes' sacrament.
That's a magical place and a millennial tradition now endangered by the incoming digging of a silver mine...

The Wirikuta Cultural and Ecological Reserve, located in Real de Catorce, Mexico, is in danger of irreversible due to Canadian mining company First Majestic Silver Corp's planes to mine silver there.
The site is sacred to the Wixarika people (Huicholes' traditional name) who practice their ancient religion in this reserve. The landscape is not only crucial to the lifestyle and culture of the native hinabitants, but it is also home to an immense variety of animal and planet species, some endangered.
Despite the fact that Wirikuta is protected by the World Network of Sacred Sites, the federal government has granted First Majestic Silver Corp the opportunity to mine there.

Ira Cohen was an American poet, publisher, filmaker, photographer and a countercultural icon. In the '60s and '70s he traveled extensively around the world, in particular in India, Nepal and Maroc (he lived in Tangier for 4 years, in the early 1960s.)
In 1981 he returned in New York, but continued to travel, making trips to Ethiopia, Japan and back to India, where he filmed the Kumbha Mela, the greatest spiritual gathering of the world.
Deeply inspired by Hindu and Islamic philosophy and spirituality, Ira was also an expert and a joyous user of hashish in its various forms, in particular the majoon, a powerful Moroccan confection made of cannabis resin, honey, dates, spices and other ingredients. In 1966 he published The Hashish Cookbook.

Stephen Marley / "Revelation pt. 1: The Root of Life"

A great, inspired roots reggae album by Bob's talented son Stephen, probably my preferred one among his heirs...If you loved Bob and like the genre, don't miss it and you'll not be disappointed...Great songs and great sound...

The Twinkle Brothers / "Gift of Jah"

The Twinkle Brothers, a great historical (and in some way underrated) reggae band with an incredibly long career. If you like the most mystical roots reggae, get their fascinating latest album Gift of Jah, then spark a good one, put your headphones on and go....

African Head Charge / "Voodoo of the Godsent"

His previous album Escape from Babylon (2010) had really excited many and this new 2 Times Revolution will not disappoint his growing fans even though it's maybe just a little less perfect. But don't get me wrong, it contains many good songs and absolutely deserves your full attention...

Luciano / "Rub-a-Dub Market"

Without doubt Luciano is a stellar presence in the present international reggae scene. Active since early 1990s he has a really plentiful musical production of above average albums under his belt. Luciano's silk voice, roots sound and conscious texts keep on delighting multitudes of reggae fans around the world. Even though Rub-a-Dub Market isn't probably his best album ever, it contains at least 5 or 6 hits to add to his precious case of great reggae tunes...

Earl 16 / "Fittest of the Fittests"

Another old lion of reggae music well known by all true reggae aficionados, Earl 16 has realized a truly remarkable roots comeback with The Fittest, a surprisingly fresh new album packed with absolutely convincing tunes (and dub versions), supported by a compact roots sound and fine arrangements. Surely it's one of the best roots reggae albums of 2011 !

Along with 'microdots' and 'windowpanes', Lsd began to be put on blotter paper sheets in the early 1970s. That gave rise to a particular art form of decorating with trippy pictures the blotter paper. Usually the blotter paper was decorated with very small 'icons' on each perforated square tab. By the 1990s this has progressed to complete four colors designs often involving the 'traditional' entire page of 900 tabs.
Nowadays many websites specialized in blotter art sell beautiful art prints of 'vanity blotter art', that is blotter paper sheets obviously without the acid...

" My paintings most often focus on the human figure paired with elements found in nature. These surreal, symbolic juxtapositions are intended to work on at least two levels.

The first alludes to the fact that we are an integral part of the natural world and subject to its laws. This seems like an obvious statement until we step back and objectively assess our symbiotic relationship with each other and the Earth. Depending on how you see it, these relationships fall somewhere on the scale between harmonious and dysfunctional.

The second turns the lens around to look inward upon the stewardship of our own emotional, intellectual and psychological landscapes. The same pictorial subject matter allows me to make references to our individual journeys of self-exploration and discovery. Again, depending on who is holding the compass, we are either lost or on the right path.

At the very least, I desire to create images of beauty and mystery that allow the viewer to find their own personal significance in them. "

Co-founder of the progressive British folk band Pentangle and one of the most renowned and influential acoustic guitarists in folk-rock history, Bert Jansch died yesterday after a long battle with lung cancer. He was 67.
Bert Jansch was put in Rolling Stone's 100 Greatest Guitarist of All Time and was deeply admired by fellow musicians like Jimmy Page and Neil Young who called him the acoustic equivalent of Jimi Hendrix and invited him to open for him on tour last year.
After the legendary golden period with the Pentangle, he continued to play music, cut records and make concerts alone and with various formations.
Drinking problems derailed his career for a while, but he came back in good shape in the 1990s with critically acclaimed works. His last album is The Black Swan (2006).

Navaratri is a Hindu celebration of the Divine Mother in her various forms. "The word Navaratri literally means nine nights in Sanskrit. (...) During these nine nights and ten days, nine forms of Shakti/Devi are worshipped.
The beginning of Spring and the beginning of Autumn are two very important junctions of climatic and solar influence. These two periods are taken as sacred opportunities for the worship of the Divine Mother. The dates of the festival are determined according to the lunar calendar.
Navaratri represents celebration of the Goddess Durga, the manifestation of Deity in form of Shakti (Energy or Power). "Peter Aziz, a shaman who has been practicing for 35 years was sentenced to 15 months in prison in England for supplying patients with Ayahuasca. He was secretly caught on film taking money in exchange for letting others drink some of the brew. The trial is the first of it's kind in the UK, and has set a precedent for DMT in court.
Mr. Aziz was sentenced for producing a class "A" drug and on two counts of supplying. Dr Charles Shepherd, the man who went undercover to investigate Mr. Aziz, was happy with the result of the trail, claiming that DMT should be treated the same way as heroin or cocaine. He noted that at the ceremony he saw was "people vomiting into buckets having serious hallucinations". The judge in the case connected to Mr. Aziz, saying that he could see he, "wholeheartedly had done a lot of good for a lot of people", but in the end determined that the drug was dangerous nonetheless.

A petition has been created to help get Peter Aziz out of prison and back to practicing and healing people. This is a landmark case, as it is the first of its kind, so this is the time to send a message to the lawmakers."

Kesey and the Pranksters intended to make a documentary about their trip, shooting footage on 16MM, but the film was never finished and the footage has remained virtually unseen. Unfortunately in recent times the international countercultural/psychedelic community has lost so many beloved members that it isn't so easy to be always 'punctual' with this kind of sad events...I have to apologize of not having said anything about Ira Cohen, American poet, publisher, photographer, filmaker, countercultural icon and intrepid traveler, who peacefully died on April 25th 2011 at the age of 76 in New York.
