Aya Awakenings movie trailer

Aussie 'experiential' journalist and author Rak Razam is well known within the psychedelic network. In 2009 he published Aya Awakenungs - A Shamanic Odissey, a 500+ page volume in which he describes the mysterious and archaic world of Amazonian shamanism, the booming visionary plants 'tourism' and his personal experiences with ayahuasca, the visionary brew of theSouth American rainforest. Now Rak has produced Aya Awakenings, a narrative documentary adapted from his book. See the trailer and go here for everything about Rak.

Icaro de Ayahuasca

The icaros are hypnotic/enchanting chants sung by Amazonian shamans during the ayahuasca ceremonies and used to invoke spirits and allies, to induce visions and to increase or lower  the participants' energy...Usually the icaros melody comes to shamans in dreams or during the ceremony itself.
This icaro in particular is a little harmonized and 'arranged'  with the help of string instruments, nonetheless it's a good example - together with the ayahuasca-like 'visions - of the enchanting and mesmerizing power of these healing shamanic chants....

Can Animistic Perception Change the World?

An interview with Robert Tindall from PsypressUK
Robert Tindall Tindall is a writer, classical guitarist, long time practitioner of Zen Buddhism, and an inveterate traveler, whose work explores the crossing of frontiers into other cultures, time depths, and states of consciousness. He is the author of two books on shamanism, “The Jaguar that Roams the Mind” and “The Shamanic Odyssey: Homer, Tolkien, and the Visionary Experience.” Visit his blog at roamingthemind

PPUK:  Hi Robert. You’ve spent a great deal of time in South America with indigenous cultures working with ayahuasca and other plants, what do you think are the major lessons that today’s South American shamanism can teach the West, and why?
Robert Tindall:  In a very modest way, I wonder if it might help save our planet. Although there still remains the possibility that we will use our rational, scientific thinking capacity to pull out of our plunge into catastrophic climate change (we did, after all, save the ozone layer by banning CFCs by international global treaty back in 1987), the outlook is grim. As we know, the estimates of the IPCC on global temperature change back in 1988 have been far surpassed by reality – the oceans are rising and the polar icecaps vanishing. The level of carbon in the air has actually increased from 2.8 parts per ten thousand in 1987 to 3.9 parts in 2000. We’re looking down the barrel of a mass extinction gun, and keep pulling the trigger. Scientific, rational thinking will hopefully bring us to our senses before it’s too late, but perhaps the experience of permeable consciousness (characteristic of indigenous culture and their shamanic traditions) has a catalytic or seminal role to play, especially now as it makes inroads into Western society.
To put it simply, if your experience of the Earth is of an ancient, vital, sentient organism embedded in a vast, mysterious cosmos of awe inspiring power and beauty, it is far less likely that you would dump, as the Europeans did, 220 000 drums of radioactive materials into the waters of the Northeast Atlantic—leaving ticking time bombs for future generations of life. If scientific rationality wasn’t sufficient to overcome such profound imbecility, an instinctive veneration for the sacred womb of life could.

The Ayahuasca Project

Definitely watch and share this trailer for a gorgeous looking documentary about ayahuasca shamanism, science and it’s use in treating Westerners afflicted with addictions and severe emotional traumas, as pioneered by the work of two doctors; Dr. Jacques Mabit, who “runs a legendary detox centre deep in the Peruvian jungle”and Dr. Gabor Maté, a lionhearted addiction specialist valiantly trying to establish a similar program in Canada.  It is seeking completion funding on KickStarter so if you like the trailer please learn more by watching the kickstarter video

Free Peter Aziz

"Peter Aziz, a shaman who has been practicing for 35 years was sentenced to 15 months in prison in England for supplying patients with Ayahuasca. He was secretly caught on film taking money in exchange for letting others drink some of the brew. The trial is the first of it's kind in the UK, and has set a precedent for DMT in court.
Mr. Aziz was sentenced for producing a class "A" drug and on two counts of supplying. Dr Charles Shepherd, the man who went undercover to investigate Mr. Aziz, was happy with the result of the trail, claiming that DMT should be treated the same way as heroin or cocaine. He noted that at the ceremony he saw was "people vomiting into buckets having serious hallucinations". The judge in the case connected to Mr. Aziz, saying that he could see he, "wholeheartedly had done a lot of good for a lot of people", but in the end determined that the drug was dangerous nonetheless.

A petition has been created to help get Peter Aziz out of prison and back to practicing and healing people. This is a landmark case, as it is the first of its kind, so this is the time to send a message to the lawmakers."
( from Reality Sandwich )

I don't exactly know who is Peter Aziz but - even though the petion is bad written and full of grammatical and technical errors (it's 'Pineal Gland' not 'Penial Glad'!!) - I urge my readers to sign it to show our support to the 'plant teachers' and the brave ( and I hope 'disinterested'...) souls who use and give them to needy people, in spite of stupid, medieval laws.

Icaros

"Ayahuasca Yari" by José Campos.
A very nice (arranged) example of icaro, with paintings by the great Peruvian shaman/artist Pablo Amaringo (1938 - 2009).
Icaros are 'spontaneous' spiritual songs inspired to shamans by the ayahuasca medicine and other 'teacher plants'. They are used during ceremonies to communicate with ancestors and spirits of the forest, to heal and provoke certain visions and particular states of consciousness.

Adios Don Pablo!

Sad to announce that the great shaman painter Pablo Amaringo died yesterday in the Regional Hospital of Pucallpa (Peru) after several weeks of illness. Don Pablo had picked up a severe infection after returning from Lima.
He was born in 1934 in the village of Puerto Libertad and in 1970 he became a renowned shaman. During a period of six years (1970/76) he cured thousands of people using the sacred brew ayahuasca. After giving up with applied shamanism, in 1985 he undertook a successfull career as a painter, thanks to the input of Dennis McKenna and Luis Eduardo Luna.
In 1999, together with the Colombian anthropologist Luis Luna, Amaringo published the beautiful book Ayahuasca Visions: The Religious Iconography of a Peruvian Shaman, that gathers together and explains his colourful and incredibly detailed paintings, inspired by his ceremonies with the Amazonian entheogenic vine.
Thanks Don Pablo, we'll miss you!
