The Burning Man is an annual art/psychedelic event and temporary autonomous zone based on radical self-expression and self-reliance. It started in 1986 as a small congregation on a small beach in San Francisco (what else?), later evolving in the Black Rock Desert (Nevada) temporary community of 48.000+ people of today.
