Visionary Synthesis

This 24" x 36" poster displays two images of Alexander Shulgin's laboratory and, as with the signed limited edition diptych, it is exclusively available as an Erowid Center membership gift. On the left, tendrils of ivy frame the lab's window, counterposed on the right with the laboratory door ajar to its alchemical interior. The pair of photos evokes the balance between the plant world and the world of chemistry.A limited number of these posters have been signed by Dr. Shulgin's below the text on the front of the poster. The first five are available at the Friend level ($75) and the remainder at the Supporting level ($125).The two images are printed on heavy weight poster paper. They are from a series of photographs taken by artist Michael Rauner at Dr. Shulgin's laboratory in 2004, as part of his body of work compiled for Visionary State: A Journey through California's Spiritual Landscape, a collaboration with author Erik Davis. The photographs have been donated by the artist and Scott Nichols Gallery.

Food Art: Bento

Bento is a wooden or plastic box with several compartments to hold different food, traditionally rice, sushi, vegetables and pickles, but also sweets and fruits. In Japan they are prepared for office, school or pic-nic and girlfriends often prepare them for their male partners.

You can see here few creations (even a 'acid' one)
by the talented 'bento artist' Sakurako Kitsa and many more on her Flickr page and here.
Other bento compositions (not Kitsa's) here

Tag Galaxy

Tag Galaxy is a wonderful site that you can use to see Flickr photos like a series of galaxies and planets. You search a tag and the related 'galaxy' appears on your screen.

Each planet contains a series of photos of the tag you searched and when you click on them, the images are placed on a 3D rotating globe.

Really a new and creative way to search and see pictures...

Video Postage Stamp

video postage stamp

Take a good look at the approximately 3-second sport clip shown to the left. It shows three different perspectives of the winning soccer (football) goal scored by Andreas "Andi" Herzog for Austria in 1997. This goal provided a sense of strong national pride for Austria as their team defeated Sweden 1-0 in route to their 1998 World Cup appearance. The Austria postal administration has immortalized this television broadcast clip on a postage stamp issued May, 2008 in honor of the upcoming Union of European Football Associations' 2008 series. Using a particular technology called lenticular printing, Austria Post has managed to put the moving image of this goal onto a postage stamp.

The particular technology used is the lenticular printing.

Big Trees and Small Axes

Unjustice, corruption and violence rule the world of today. Who fights for his own freedom and rights and tries to defend his people and his country is too often called and considered a 'terrorist' while oppressors and bullies are honoured and sit at the table of the powerful few, the supposed 'freedom fighters'...

A sad and clear example of this distorted situation is the Israel/Palestine conflict, where Israel practises a politics of brutal apartheid towards the Palestinian people, hundread of Palestinian civils are sistematically killed with the poor pretext of few artigianal rockets shot on the Israeli (illegal) colonies (remember that Israel has the fifth more powerful army in the world and then make your considerations...)

During the last decades Israel never obeyed the several Onu resolutions, but thanks to the powerful USA protection, nothing happened...At the contrary, with the support of the western media and the continuous propaganda of certain potent lobbies (mainly in the USA), the aggressors become the 'good ones' and the victims become the 'bad ones', just a bunch of fanatical terrorists...

That said, we know that, as the great Bob Marley said in his songs, "he who laughs last is he who wins" and "If you're a big tree, we're a small axe..." so one day aggressors and 'land robbers'will have to answer for their faults and truth and justice will prevail. Even for Palestinian people...

The DalEYE Lama

Management Lessons

LESSON 1:

A crow was sitting on a tree, doing nothing all day.A small rabbit saw the crow, and asked him, "Can I also sit like youand do nothing all day long?" The crow answered: "Sure, why not." So,the rabbit sat on the ground below the crow, and rested. All of asudden, a fox appeared, jumped on the rabbit and ate it.

Moral of the story: To be sitting and doing nothing, you must be sitting very, very high up.

LESSON 2:

A turkey was chatting with a bull. "I would love to beable to get to the top of that tree," sighed the turkey, "but Ihaven't got the energy." "Well, why don't you nibble on some of mydroppings?"replied the bull "They're packed with nutrients." The turkeypecked at a lump of dung and found that it actually gave him enoughstrength to reach the first branch of the tree. The next day, aftereatingsome more dung, he reached the second branch. Finally after afortnight, there he was proudly perched at the top of the tree. Soon hewaspromptly spotted by a farmer, who shot the turkey out of the tree.

Moral of the story: Bullshit might get you to the top,but it won't keep you there.

LESSON 3:

A little bird was flying south for the winter. It wasso cold, that the bird froze and fell to the ground in a large field. While it was lying there, a cow came by and dropped some dung onit. As the frozen bird lay there in the pile of cow dung, it began torealize how warm it was. The dung was actually thawing him out! He laythere all warm and happy, and soon began to sing for joy. A passingcat heard the bird singing and came to investigate. Following thesound, the cat discovered the bird under the pile of cow dung, andpromptly dug him out and ate him!

The Morals of this story:1) Not everyone who drops shit on you is your enemy.2) Not everyone who gets you out of shit is yourfriend.3) And when you're in deep shit, keep your mouth shut!

LESSON 4:

When the body was first made, all the parts wanted tobe boss. The brain said, "I should be Boss because Icontrol the whole body's responses and functions. "The feet said, " We should be Boss as we carry thebrain about and get him to where he wants to go." Thehands said, " We should be the Boss because we do allthe work and earn all the money." And so it went onand on with the heart, the lungs and the eyes untilfinally the asshole spoke up. All the parts laughed atthe idea of the asshole being the Boss. So the assholewent on strike, blocked itself up and refused to work.Within a short time the eyes became crossed, the handsclenched, the feet twitched, the heart and lungs beganto panic and the brain fevered. Eventually they alldecided that the asshole should be the Boss, so themotion was passed. All the other parts did all thework while the Boss just sat and passed out the shit!

Moral of the story: You don't need brains to be a Boss- any asshole will do.

Please Park for Me...

Volkswagen is showing off its new Park Assist Vision technology at the Hanover Fair in Germany. Unlike VW's previous attempts, this version of Park Assist is fully automatic. As such, the driver-turned-spectator can stand outside the car while the Passat maneuvers its way into cramped spots with the help of external cameras and proximity sensors. The driver selects his space on the monitor of the navigation system and then sets the vehicle into "P" mode. It's just a trial for now so you'll still have to get by with the ol' bump-smile-n-flirt approach that's gotten you and your Aquanet hair into the city up until now. See more infos here

The World of Donald Roller Wilson

Donald Roller Wilson (born November 23, 1938) is an artist who uses some unique items in his paintings, such as dogs and cats, chimpanzees, dill pickles, wooden matches, olives, asparagus stalks, and even cigarettes. He paints in oils, in a very polished, super-realistic style, using the same techniques used by the Old Masters. He was born in Houston, Texas and is based in Fayetteville, Arkansas. According to the New York Times, "Donald Roller Wilson's goofy, hallucinogenic, Old Master-style painting of monkeys, dogs and cats dressed up in antique costumes may be kitsch, but it's high-quality kitsch, like good beach reading."

Visiting his wonderful site you suddenly enter in Wilson's world, a strange, parallel reality...

After Midnight Movies

Mr Bali Hai has posted on his site an interesting list of bizarre (sci-fi/horror) cult movies found on Internet Archive and also included in Michael Weldon's guide to 'midnight movies', The Psychotronic Video Guide. You'll find a lot of obscure films but also classics like the original 'Nosferatu', 'Doctor Jekyll and Mr Hide' or 'The Last Man on Earth' (1964), with Vincent Price, based upon Richard Matheson's book 'I'm Legend' (lately we got the new version with Will Smith.)

Clickin on every title of the list allows you to see the movies and also to download them.

Reggae blogs and downloads

Lately, riddims go very strong among reggae lovers. In a typical Jamaican style, several artists sing different melodies on the same base ('riddim'), showing their own individual sensibility and musical skillness. Old and new singers share the same notes and arrangements and thanks to their uncommon talent, the possible risks of monotony are totally avoided.

There're many blogs around completely dedicated to reggae music and in particular to the various riddims which keep on coming on an almost daily base; among them I would like to point out Jah School, a nice blog where it's possible to find riddims and reggae albums in general and freely download them (downloads are obviously intended for personal listening only and all the reggae bloggers strongly invite to support roots music buying albums and CDs...)

In the next future I'll give further reggae blog links for all the Jah music lovers...Meanwhile, I like to give you this link where among other musical genres you can find many reggae mixes and can immediately download ('descargar') them. For example, in Daily Bread (see image) you can find various riddims and songs by Ras Shiloh, Tarrus Riley, Glenn Washington, Cocoa Tea, Natural Black and a very long list of other old and new musicians.

(thanks to my old friend Maurizio - great music collector and reggae fanaticus - for his continuous input & support...IrieOm brother!)
