Spring Navaratri

Today begins the Spring Novaratri. Navaratri is a very special time of honoring the Divine Mother. The exact translation of the word "Navaratri" is "Nine nights". The celebration happens in Spring and Fall of every year. Each day honors a certain aspect of Divine Mother and gives a focus to the energy of that day.
The days are also subdivided into three sets of three days:
KALI: the first 3 days are devoted to Kali, the black Goddess of Destruction and Restoration, female energy of Shiva. It's time of purification, like "cleaning out your closets" to make way for new things.
LAKSHMI: the second 3 days are dedicated to Lakshmi, the red Goddess of Prosperity, female energy of Vishnu. It's a time of preservation and taking care of things or acquiring what is necessary to make your life full of prosperity and fulfilment.
SARASWATI: the last 3 days are devoted to Saraswati, the white Goddess of Wisdom, Knowledge and Arts, female energy of Brahma. It's a time of receiving Divine Guidance of how to properly use all resources sent your way.
Traditional ways to honor the Divine Mother are fasting, giving up some habits (like smoking or eating certain foods), making austerity or simply sharing good times with friends and relatives chanting devotional songs or making offerings to sacred images, murtis, etc.
Whether you're a 'spiritual' person or not, I wish you all the best during these most auspicious days...Jai Maha Maya ki jai!
