Spring Navratri 2017

Today (Chaitra/Spring) Navratri begins, Nine days (lit. 'nine nights') of celebration of the Feminine Divine Energry (Shakti) in the Hindu tradition.
Beauty, force, gracefulness, perseverance, harmony and selfless love are some of the feminine qualities that make the world a better place: let's give thanks and praises to the Divine Mother, which constantly enlivens, nourishes and protects all living beings........

The 'Absurdist' Paintings of Michael Cheval

Born in Russia in 1966, Michael Cheval now lives and works in New York, where he gives life to his 'absurdist' paintings, drawings and portraits. Cheval's definition of 'absurdity' is an inverted side of reality, a reverse side of logic....

The Evocative Art of Fatima Ronquillo

"The classically inspired imagery of Santa Fe [New Mexico, USA] based painter Fatima Ronquillo evokes a world of serenity and charm: Her paintings of mysterious personages, often set against pastoral and idyllic landscapes, are accented with an underlying sense of drama and playfulness"

Rumors of War

2017:
while many conscious people try to stay human and work in the 'positive',  others openly support  violence, racism, intolerance, nationalism, and various kinds of neofascism.
Combat boots are trendy, once again....

RIP Gerard

I have just heard that Gerard Vlemmings, the founder and editor of The Presurfer, a nice blog always packed with funny and interesting posts (and one of  my "friend links")  passed away on February 25, just few weeks after being diagnosed with lung cancer. He was 67 and had run The Presurfer since 2000.
Rest in peace my friend and thanks for all the nice moments......

Drugs in Nazi Germany

In his new book Blitzed: Drugs in the Third Reich, the German writer Norman Ohler gives an engaging  account of the (apparently common) use of drugs -in particular methamphetamine and opioids-  among civilians, soldiers and Nazi high hierarchies during the Third Reich regime.. Yet some of his assertions - for example the 'universal' diffusion of psychotropic substances in those times in Germany -  are challenged by some book reviewers and  experts in the field. Read  two reviews of  this book here and here then get a copy and make your own opinion. An interesting reading anyway . .

The Colourful 'Dot' Art of Elspeth McLean

"Elspeth McLean is an Australian raised, now Canadian residing artist who creates her colourful and intricate artworks entirely out of dots created with acrylics paint and a paintbrush..." (Bio)
I like Elspeth's paintings but her "mandala stones" series is particularly beautiful and captivating...I want one of those 'psychedelic' stones...!
