Adieu Richie, singer of freedom....

Richie Havens, the NYC folk singer who opened the 1969 Woodstock music festival, has suddenly died of a heart attack yesterday. He was 72.
During his long career he has released more than 25 albums and made countless live performances and tours. He returned to the Woodstock site during the 40th anniversary of the event in 2009.
"I really sing songs that move me," Richie said in an interview. "I am not in show business; I am in the communications business. That's what it's about for me."
